Tokyo Steel transforms hot-dip galvanizing line into dual-purpose galvanizing and annealing line

At the end of April, Tokyo Steel held a board meeting and approved a total investment and renovation plan of 10 billion yen (about 74 million US dollars) to transform the existing hot-dip galvanizing unit at the Okayama plant into a dual-purpose unit for hot-dip galvanizing and continuous annealing. After the renovation, the company's total production capacity of cold-rolled and galvanized products will reach 250,000 tons/year, and it is scheduled to start production in early 2027.
This demonstrates Tokyo Steel's proactive response to the growing global market demand for low-carbon steel products.
Tokyo Steel will maximize the use of the annealing equipment of the existing hot-dip galvanizing unit at the Okayama plant in this project. The key modifications include converting the front section of the line to induction heating to improve heating capacity and upgrading the cooling section to enhance cooling capacity.
After the transformation, the unit can producecold-rolled steel coilandgalvanized steel coil. Compared with building a new production line, this can flexibly respond to market demand while minimizing investment and balancing production efficiency and investment efficiency.
