Galvanized Steel VS Aluminum Alloy
2025-05-23
1. Material properties
Corrosion resistance
Galvanized steel: The zinc coating on the surface can prevent corrosion in the short term (about 3 years), but the zinc layer is easy to fall off and will still rust if exposed to moisture and salt spray for a long time.
Aluminum alloy:Aluminum oxide protective film is naturally formed, which has excellent corrosion resistance and a service life of more than 20 years. It is suitable for harsh environments such as high humidity and coastal areas.
Mechanical properties
Galvanized steel: high strength, excellent load-bearing capacity, suitable for high-load scenarios (such as structural support, heavy cable trays).
Aluminum alloy: lower strength than steel, but with significant lightweight advantages (density is 1/3 of steel), suitable for weight-sensitive scenarios (such as curtain walls, doors and windows).
Thermal conductivity
Aluminum alloy: The thermal conductivity is three times that of galvanized steel, suitable for equipment that needs heat dissipation (such as air conditioning pipes).
Galvanized steel: The thermal conductivity is low, suitable for scenarios requiring heat insulation.

2. Economy and maintenance
Price
Galvanized steel: Low raw material and production costs, stable price, suitable for projects with limited budgets.
Aluminum alloy: Complex raw materials and production processes, high price, but lower long-term maintenance costs.
Maintenance requirements
Galvanized steel: Regular inspection of rust and re-coating of anti-corrosion layer are required, and maintenance costs are high.
Aluminum alloy: The surface treatment layer is stable (such as anodizing), not easy to discolor and fall off, and easy to maintain.
3. Comprehensive selection recommendations
Prioritizegalvanized steel: scenarios with limited budget, high load-bearing requirements and low corrosion risk (such as inland building structures, ordinary pipelines).
Prioritizealuminum alloy: scenarios with lightweight and corrosion resistance (such as coastal awnings, photovoltaic brackets, decorative materials).
